Pagbilao Grande

A group of islands located at the Tayabas Bay area where there are white sand beaches and rich fishing grounds.  This is also the site of Tulay Buhangin where sand dunes connect the islet to Padre Burgos, during low tide.

 

Location : Tayabas Bay, near the coast of Pagbilao

How to get there :  Hire a motorized banca either from the port of Pagbilao or Dalahican Fishing Port and ask to be taken to the islands.

 

Tikob Lake

About two kilometers in diameter and 75 meters deep. Tikob Lake lies on the crater of an extinct volcano. Thick foliage surrounds the lake.

 

Location : Tiaong

How to get there : From the town proper, one can hire a jeepney or take a walk to the lake.

Travel time : About 20 minutes ride or 45 minutes’ walk from the town proper.

 

Puting Buhangin Beach

Located in the Pagbilao Grande area, this pure white sand beach, with crystal-clear and calm water, is a favorite place in Pagbilao during the summer months. The white sand beach is about 70 meters long and l0 meters wide. A small cave is found at one end of the beach.

How to get there :   From the port of Pagbilao, hire a banca and ask to    be brought to the beach.

Travel time :  2 hours from Pagbilao port.

 

Mamala

Mamala is a small barangay which is located in the heart of Mt. Banahaw. The area enjoys a cool temperature of about l7-23 degrees Celsius. About 400 meters from the end of the concrete road is the “jungle” (as the locals refer to it). Inside the jungle are lush vegetation and a river, which supplies the irrigation system of the area. Giant ferns, some extending to more than l0 feet, are all over the sides of the foot trail.

 

Location  :  Barangay Mamala I, Sariaya

How to get there :  It is best to go to the area by private vehicle. From the town proper, take the road which leads to Mamala.

Travel time :  l5 minutes from town proper.

Lamon Bay

Lamon Bay is the body of water connecting the northern part of Quezon to the Pacific Ocean.  It bounds the coastal towns of Atimonan, Gumaca, Plaridel, Lopez, and Calauag, and the island of Alabat.  It is a rich fishing ground and the home of various living corals.  Most parts of the bay consist of gray sand, some parts are filled with rocks, and others are thrived with living corals.  It is gradually sloping to the extent that during low tide, the water level is low enough to allow one to walk as far as five hundred meters from the shore.  The beaches in the towns of Gumaca and Plaridel are sandy and ideal for swimming.  Some part of the bay, about ten feet from the beach front, are living corals.  The town of Lopez has the best colonies of coral which are located just about 15 minutes by boat  from the shore.

 

Location : Northern part of Quezon

Travel Time : From Manila by road, it is about four hours of travel reaching the first town which is Atimonan.  The final bayside area is five hours away which is Calauag.

 

Tayabas Bay (Sariaya area)

The area of the Tayabas Bay in Sariaya is developed because of the presence of several large beach resorts.  The sand is gray and the water level is gradually slopping

How to get there : From the main highway in Sariaya, take the road which leads to several beach resorts in the area.  About 19 kilometers of rough roads will have to be traversed.

Travel Time : 1 hour from Sariaya main highway.

 

Mt. Banahaw

This 7,382 feet extinct volcano is famous for its mystical attributes.  Unique religious rites are held every Holy Week by pilgrims who believe that Christ walked in this mountain.  There are thousands of people who flock to the site every Lenten season.  There are approximately 66-68 registered religious sects which hold rituals every Holy Week in the area.  The mountain is also a favorite site of amulet hunters.

 

Location : Western part of the Quezon Province

How to get there : The town of Sariaya, Lucban, Tayabas, and Dolores have Mt. Banahaw as their common boundary.  One can hire a jeepney from any of these towns and ask to be taken to Mt. Banahaw.

Travel Time : Approximately 1 hour.

 

Quezon National Park

Quezon National Park has an area of about 983.0765 hectares.  It has an intricate system of caves, waterfalls, springs, creeks, gorges, and ravines against a quaint backdrop of lush greenery.  Local folks say that the park is full of living creatures from butterflies to birds and monkeys tugging along their young while crossing the street.  Trees are so tall and huge that zigzag road is ever relatively dark.  The park is also the site of Pinagbanderahan, a place where the Filipino Revolutionaries planted the Philippine flag in their fight against the Spanish colonizers, which can be reached by walking for about one hour from the road to the top of a ridge.

 

Location : Western municipalities of Atimonan, Pagbilao and Padre Burgos

How to get there : From Manila is accessible by land via Lucena City.  Mini-buses from Lucena City bound for Atimonan pass through the zigzag road inside the park.

Travel Time : About 3 hours drive from Manila.

 

Kinabuhayan

This is the site where religious sects of Mt. Banahaw believe Christ spent His Calvary.  Thousands of pilgrims, the number of which, may reach to 30,000, come to this area to fulfill their religious vows or be healed of their afflictions.  What can be found here are the rocks where Christ was believed to have been tied (Pinaggapusan). His footprint embedded on a rock, and a cold and damp rock at the entrance of a cave which is said to have curing power.

Location : Barangay Kinabuhayan, Dolores

How to get there : Hire a jeepney or take the public transport from the town proper bound for Sta. Lucia.  Get off the junction and walk the remaining four kilometers.

Travel Time : 1 hour from town proper.

 

Ina ng Awa

Ina ng Awa is near Kinabuhayan at the foot of Mt. Banahaw and is also revered as mystical.  The mystical caves which are revered by the religious sects are located in this area.  Many small caves and rock shelters were given Biblical names and some also serve as altars for the sects.  Some, like the Santong Husgado Cave, test the purity of the spirits of those who enter.  The ones with clean spirit can easily pass through and the unclean ones will get pinned by the rocks inside the cave preventing them from continuing, thus they will have to turn back.

How to get there : From the town proper, hire a jeepney or take a public vehicle towards Sta. Lucia.

Travel Time : 40 minute from the town proper.

 

Cristalino Falls- Mt. Banahaw

A few meters south of Santos Collegio where crystal clear water can soothe the thirst after climbing a few slopes up.

Durungawan – Mt. Banahaw

Having the strength of going up higher at Mt. Banahaw, one can see for himself the crowning glory of the holy mountain’s peak called “Durungawan”- a window place on the mountain’s top where one can gaze at the valleys, towns, and city surrounding the sacred mountain.  It is from there that one can feel the ultimate satisfaction of having gone to the mountain.

Malusak Cave

Probably the longest cave in Atimonan with clearance of more or less 20 feet in height.

Talabaan Islands

The Talabaan Islands are two islands located off the shore of Padre Burgos town.  The bigger of the two, Malaking Talabaan, is a favorite jump-off point to the beaches of Padre Burgos and the neighboring town of Pagbilao.  The smaller island, Maliit na Talabaan, is a rock formation jutting out of the sea.  What makes this island unique is that the rocks seem to have been curiously arranged and piled.

 

Location : Off the coast of Padre Burgos.

How to get there : From the pier of Padre Burgos, hire a banca towards the islands.

Travel time : 15 minute from pier.

 

Mag-asawang Bato

The Mag-asawang Bato are two pieces of big boulders jutting out of the sea.  During low tide, the land where the stones stand are exposed so people can walk over them.

 

Location : Off the coast of Padre Burgos

How to get there : The attraction is accessible by banca either via the towns of Pagbilao or Padre Burgos.

Travel time : 1 hour from Pagbilao and 30 minutes from Padre Burgos.

 

Pulong Niugan

The biggest of the three islands near the shore of the municipality of Lopez and the neighboring towns of Calauag and Gumaca.  The beach area is gradually sloping and the water is clear.  Its best assets is the nearby colonies of corals about 50 meters from the islands.

        

Location : Barangay Hondagua, Lopez

How to get there : From Manila, buses bound for the town of Calauag and the Bicol Region pass through Lopez.  Upon reaching the town proper, one can continue towards the town of Calauag, then turn left towards Barangay Hondagua.  About nine kilometers of rough road will have to be taken.  An alternative is the trolley (the local call it skid- an improvised motor vehicle which travels over a rail track).  Upon eraching Barangay Hondagua, hire a boat to reach the island.

Travel time : From Manila, the town Lopez is about 4 ¼ hours’ by land transportation.  The boat ride to the island is approximately 20 minutes.

 

Tulay Buhangin Island

The island is one of the favorite areas of vacationers who go to Padre Burgos.  Although one beachfront has been damaged, other parts of the island are still fit for swimming.

How to get there : From the pier of Padre Burgos, hire a banca towards the island.

Travel Time : 25 minutes from pier.

 

Pasig Island

The attraction looks very much like an ordinary island nestling in the calm waters of the Pacific.  The people who live there (about 25 families) have very dark skin and brown hair.  Coconut trees are all over the island.  Aside from the cogon grass, Bermuda grass also grows in abundance.  Part of the perimeter of the island is covered with mangroves.  Other parts of the beach are either made up of white sand or rocks.  The entrance to the island (the distance from the shore is about one kilometer) is good for snorkeling because it has colonies of live corals.  During low tide, the corals can be clearly seen from a boat.

 

Location : Calauag

How to get there : This island is about 23 hectares and about 24 kilometers from the town proper of Calauag.  From the pier of Calauag, a boat will have to be hired to reach the island.

Travel Time : From Manila, travel time to Calauag is about 5 hours.  Boat ride to the island is about 3 hours.

 

Baluti Island

Located about three kilometers from the town port of Real, Baluti island covers an area of about 23 hectares.  The island which is almost part of the mainland is only separated by a wide river.  Many parts of the island are covered with pine trees instead of coconut trees.  The beach areas are good for swimming.  The water is relatively clear and the gray sand is fine.  A slight drop-off is located just about 10 meters from the beachfront.

How to get there : From the Lawton Terminal in Manila, ride a Kapalaran bus bound for Infanta, Quezon.  Upon arrival in Real, hire a banca towards the island.

Travel Time : 5 hours from Manila to Real port; 10 minutes from the port to Baluti Island.

 

Libjo Beach

The beach is about two kilometers long and 30 meters wide and has been the favorite picnic area of any locals especially during the summer months.  The sand is fine and light gray in color.  The drop-off of the water level is about 20 meters from the shore.

How to get there : Take a tricycle from the town proper.

Travel Time : 20 minutes from the town proper

 

Pamplona Beach

The beach is about three kilometers in length and 40 meters wide.  Large parts of the area have fine gray sand, and smooth pebbles and rocks in some parts.  Rocks with curious formations are also present at one end of the beach.  A spring with cold water can be found near these rock formations.

How to get there : To reach General Nakar from Manila, one has to first reach Infanta and from there hire a tricycle and ask to be brought to the beach.

Travel Time : 40 minutes from Infanta

 

Balabag Falls

Balabag  Falls is the biggest of the three falls located in barangay Malapad in Real.  Its height is about 100 feet of cascading water.

 

Location : Barangay Mapalad, Real

How to get there : Barangay Mapalad is about 117 kilometers from Manila.  At Kilometer Marker 114 of the Laguna-Infanta route, turn right at the junction then drive for another three kilometers to reach the falls.

Travel Time : Real is about 5 hours’ drive from Manila.

 

San Francisco Beach

The beach is about one kilometer long and 25 meters wide.  The color of the sand is light brown and the ocean floor slopes gradually.  The area is the favorite picnic ground of the people of Polillo.

 

Location : Barangay Sibulan, Polillo

How to get there : From Manila, take a bus in Lawtown bound for Infanta.  Get off at the town pier of Real, then transfer to a ferry boat going to Polillo Island.  Upon arrival in Polillo, hire a pedicab/ tricycle.

Travel Time : 5-6 hours drive from Manila to Real; ferry ride to Polillo Island is 2 ½ to 3 hours; 15 minutes tricycle ride from Polillo town proper to the beach.

 

Coccoc Island

Coccoc is a small island which looks like an umbrella from afar.  White sand beaches surround the island.  Although quite far from the town proper of Polillo, this particular island is also a favorite picnic area of many locals.

How to get there : From the town proper of Polillo, hire and ask to be taken to Coccoc island.

Travel Time : 1 ½ hours from town proper.

 

Bakaw-Bakaw Island

The island is about one hectare in size and filled with mangrove, talisay trees and other shrubs.  The beach is gently sloping and is composed of light brown sand and crushed shells.  The deeper area is dotted with isolated coral beds.

 

Location : Burdeos

How to get there : From Manila, take a bus (Kapalaran Bus) at Lawtown bound for the town of Infanta.  Get off at the pier of the town of Real, about 10 kilometers before Infanta.  Then ride a ferry boat towards Polillo.  The last leg will be traveling by means of motorcycle towards Burdeos.  To reach the Bakaw-Bakaw Island from the town proper of Burdeos, take a banca ride.

Travel time : From Manila to Real, travel time is 5-6 hours.  Ferry ride to Polillo takes about 2 ½ to 3 hours.  Motorcycle ride to B7urdeos is about 1 hour.  Banca ride from Burdeos to the island is about 15 minutes.

 

Binobombonan Island

The island has a land area of one hectare and is still uninhabited.  It is circular in shape and ringed by fine white sand.  The sand level is gradually sloping and the water is very clear.  The land is densely forested.  Not far from the island is a good spot for snorkeling and diving.

How to get there : From the town pier of Burdeos, hire a banca towards the island.

Travel time : 25 minutes’ boat ride from Burdeos pier.

 

Ikulong Island

The island is about 15 hectares in size and filled with coconut trees.  Like the other islands, it has white sand.

How to get there : It is about 1.5 kilometers from the town proper; traveling towards the island by banca.

Travel Time : 25 minutes boat ride from the town proper.

 

Anilon Island

The island is about 15 hectares in land area and the white sand beach on one side of the island is about one kilometer long and 25 meter wide.  During low tide, one end of the island will reveal a long stretch of sand which looks like a sand bridge.

 

Location : Burdeos

How to get there : It is about 2.5 kilometers from the town port.

Travel Time : 30 minutes boat ride from the town port.

 

Anilon Cave

It is a small islet or a large rock which also looks like a land bridge with a small cave where swimmers can pass through from one end to the other.

 

Location : Anilon, Burdeos

How to get there : It is located very near the Anilon Island. Because it is separated by about 200 meters of water, one will need a banca to reach the place.

Travel time : 30 minutes boat ride from the port.

 

Malaking Malaguinoan Island

The bigger one of the two Malaguinoan island, it is about 40 hectares in land area.  Several white sand beaches are located along its coasts.

 

Location : Burdeos

How to get there : It is about three kilometers from the tow proper of Burdeos.  To reach it, one will have to hire a boat.

Travel Time : 1 hour boat ride

 

Puting Bato

The major attractions of Puting Bato are its cliff walls which look very much like the ones in El Nido, Palawan.  Aside from the walls, there are small caves. Small isolated beaches which are good for swimming can also be found. Rock formations which look like umbrellas abound in the area.

 

Location : Barangay Puting Bato, Burdeos

How to get there : Although it is part of the mainland, a boat will have to be used when traveling towards this particular area for easy access.

Travel Time : 15 minutes boat ride.

 

Kabalwa Island

One of the biggest islands, it is about 40 hectares in size.  Several beaches are also present in the island.

 

Location : Burdeos

 

How to get there : It is one-half kilometer from the town proper, accessible by boat from the Burdeos port.

Travel time : 25 minutes boat ride.

 

Palasan Island

Palasan is the biggest of the many islands of Burdeos.  It is about 150 hectares in land area.  Like the other island, Palasan also has several beaches.

Travel Time : 1 hour boat ride from the Burdeos port.

 

Anawan Island

Although the beaches in Anawan are good, it is very far from the town pier.  The distance is about 1.8 nautical miles.  Its land area is about 18 hectares.

How to get there : The island is accessible by boat from the Burdeos port.

Travel Time : 1 ½ hours boat ride.

 

Sila Beach

Sila Beach is part of the main island of the town of Patnanungan.  The beach is brown and gently sloping.  Not far from the beach are colonies of corals.  At one part of the beach are queer rock formations which looks very much like speedboats docked in a marina.

How to get there            :            Hire a banca from either Jomalig or Burdeos.

Travel time            :            1 ½ hour boat ride.

                                           

Katakian Island

The sand of the beach is brown and gently sloping.  The beach is about 500 meters long and 20 meters wide.  A wide area of coral reef is located near the island.

How to get there : There are two ways to reach Katakian Island.  One is via Burdeos and the other is via Jomalig.  To reach Jomalig, a plane will have to be chartered.

Travel time : 2 hours travel time via Burdeos; 1 hour via Jomalig.

 

Talisoy Beach

The beach is one of the popular areas for tourists in the island.  Because of the clear water, a wide area of the beach and the sudden drop-off, the area is preferred by professional swimmers.

How to get there : One can charter an airplane to reach the place.

Travel time : 1 hour travel time.

 

Maria Cristina Park

Maria Cristina Park is a promenade park with an area of 200 square meters built along the Lamon Bay area of the town of Atimonan.

How to get there : Buses bound for Atimonan pass near the park.

 

Perez Park

Perez Park totals seven hectares of fully developed and well-maintained area located at the heart of the provincial capital.  It features a children’s playground, beautifully landscaped garden, a man-made cave and a large fountain which dances to the music.

How to get there : Take a jeepney or a tricycle anywhere in the city proper.

 

Pinagbanderahan

It is a monument at the heart of the National Forest park built in 1938 under the Commonwealth Government.  This is called Pinagbanderahan for its historic role during World War II.  It is the perfect vantage point to view Mt. Banahaw, the islands of Marinduque and Mindoro as well as the major towns and city of Quezon like Lucena, Pagbilao and Tayabas.

Santos Collegio

About 100 meters from Kinabuhayan Spring where one can bath from sprinkles of tiny droplets of mountain springs as fresh as dew drops pouring down from the mountain slides.

Sta. Lucia Falls

Before going directly to the falls, an adventurous tourist can detour to a winding footpath leading to “Ina ng Awa” a place of religious worship where many religious sects serve as guidance from our most Beloved Virgin Mary.  267 steps going down to Sta. Lucia falls, going to the falls, one can hear the murmur of the cascading water where Sta. Lucia falls sits quietly manifesting itself to the eyes of many beholders, a feast of nature at its best.
